Do I need contract works insurance?
You should check with your client. If your contract holds you responsible for any unfinished work, you could be held responsible in case unexpected events throw a spanner in the works. This cover is most popular with builders, bricklayers, carpenters and tilers, but it can be useful for anyone who works in the construction industry.
What does contract works insurance cover?
Contract works insurance covers the work you are doing on a building site. It might pay for redoing any work which is damaged or destroyed and can include the cost of labour, machinery and tools. This is a good way to help you get the site back to the condition it was in before it was damaged without exposing yourself to additional costs.
What does contract works insurance exclude?
As with all insurance policies, there will be exclusions. Policies will not cover any work which is already on the site. For example, it will not protect you for damage to an existing building if you’re working on an extension.
How much does contract works insurance cost?
This will depend on how big the project you’re undertaking is, as well as factoring in the labour involved and the materials used. You’ll need to get the right level of cover for the job. For example, if the estimated costs of a project over the course of a year is £1 million, then you’ll need the same amount in insurance cover.
